OOTD :: Date Night

So me and Mr. Gregory just got back from out date night. I've already changed into baggie sweats and a tank. *ahhh comfy-ness* and am able to write the blog post to go along with my latest video.

New Year's Eve is tomorrow and instead of planning some crazy thing to end the year in chaos or drunk, we decided to do a date night tonight. It started with us doing dinner at Olive Garden. We wanted to do Cheesecake Factory but with it being a friday night and having to go to Woodfield Mall for it we didn't think it would fit our time frame. However, Olive Garden was yummy and the waitress was really nice.

Next on our date night adventure was a movie. I reserved us VIP seats at the iPic Theater in South Barrington at the Arboretum. It's really cool! You get fully reclining lazy-boy style seats with a fuzzy blanket and pillow as well as complimentary popcorn (which was really yummy). Before the movie starts and while the previews are running you actually have waiters asking if you need anything (they have anything from snacks to full meals). We decided to splurge and get a bottle of wine, nothing to crazy just a bottle of Moscato from Seven Daughter's. It's a really smooth and sweet white wine. I recommend trying it.

We ended up running almost an hour early for our movie so we decided to stop at Victoria Secret cause I had a gift card from Christmas. I ended up getting a pair of super comfy PINK sweats in 2 sizes to bigger than I needed. My thought process is well they are lounge comfy pants so why not get the only size in the pants I want. And to be honest I'm glad I did! They are super soft and comfy and offer lots of room haha!

After our little VS adventure we made it to the theater with about a half hour till the movie. We lucked out though cause they had pool tables to help pass the time. It really brings back memories for me and Gregory as that was what we use to do when we first started dating all the time. We haven't played in I want to say close to 5 years! So we got to play a couple games before the movie all of which Gregory ended up sinking the 8 ball in before he was suppose to and losing. HAHA!

Our movie started at 7 and we went to go see Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows. I was worried I wouldn't stay awake for it as I can never seem to stay awake for the first one and I wine always seems to knock me out. I swear it's like a sleeping pill in liquid form for me. But I stayed awake and ended up really enjoying the movie! I definitely recommend going to see it.

After the movie ended we decided to hang out at the bar and finish up our bottle of wine and played two more games of pool. Again I ended up winning, except the last one I made the winning shot versus Gregory sinking the 8 ball to early LOL.

But any who enough of my night lets talk about the outfit!

I wore some new goodies I recently got from Christmas.

.:Wearing:.
Shirt: Alloy - V-Neck Ruched Side
Pants: Angel jeans
Shoes: Ann Michelle - Wild Cat

Here's a better look of the boots.

Unfortunately I bought mine at a local Marshall's for $20 and everywhere I find them online they are $40 and up. Sorry ladies.

Well that's it. Hope you guys like my outfit! And have a happy & safe new years!

Last Friday Favorite of 2011!

If you haven't already figured out by the title this well be my last Friday Favorites post of 2011. I can not believe this year is over already! Me and Gregory decided that we were going to do our New Years celebrating tonight. It just seemed crazy spending double the money to do it tomorrow when its half the price to do it tonight.

We're going to do dinner and iPic Theater. It's pretty cool! We get to sit in these super big Lazyboy style chairs that recline and get fuzzy blankets and pillows! Decided to go see the new Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows. Hope its good, well see! I always miss the last 15-20 minutes of the first one cause I conk out LOL. Not that the first one is bad, I just can't seem to stay awake for the whole movie HAHA! For New Year's Eve we plan on just hanging out at the house and ringing in the new year playing video games and chilling with a friend out ours. We're not really into the whole getting belligerently drunk and making fools of our selves. Plus when I drink I have patience for all of 2 seconds before I want to slap a moron so it's not exactly smart to go out tomorrow. HAHA!

But anywho! Lets get to the point of this post! What am I loving this week?!

Favorite Quote: My plan for 2012! LOL!

Sparkly Lemon Cookies

So I was surfing Lauren Conrad's website today and stumbled upon this cookie recipe...Can I just say: "DOES THIS COOKIE NOT LOOK DELICIOUS?!" Okay I get this might not be everyone's idea of something yummy. I guess you could say lemon is an acquired taste. However, growing up one of my dad's favorite desserts was lemon cake with lemon frosting so as a kid we always had it around. Also last christmas my aunt made this wonderful lemon flavored white chocolate chip cookies that were to die for! I wish I would have gotten the recipe...perhaps this christmas I can...

The star-shaped edible glitter (Michaels.com) is an optional embellishment for these lemon cookies. The topping really makes them sparkle, but you could also use coarse sanding sugar or simply leave the cookies glazed.

ANYWHO! Lets get on to the good stuff! The cookie! (Isn't that uber pretty to with the glittery stars? LOVE IT!)

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
Salt
1 stick plus 2 ½ tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 lemons, zested and juiced (1/3 cup juice)
2 large eggs
¼ cup whole milk
2 ¾ cups confectioners’ sugar
Star-shaped edible glitter or coarse sanding sugar, for sprinkling (optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 325-degrees. Whisk together flour and ¼ teaspoon salt in a small bowl.
  2. Beat butter, granulated sugar, and lemon zest with a mixer on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 10 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs. Reduce speed to low, and gradually beat in flour mixture.
  4. Slowly add milk, and beat on medium speed for 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer dough to a pastry bag fitted with a ½- inch plain round trip.
  6. Pipe 1 ½- inch rounds onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
  7. Bake until bottoms are pale gold, 16 to 18 minutes.
  8. Let cool completely on sheets set on wire racks.
  9. Whisk together confectioners' sugar and lemon juice in a small bowl until smooth.
  10. Brush glaze onto cookies, and sprinkle with edible glitter.

Holiday Up Do with Jacqueline Marie

Well we decided since you guys seemed to enjoy mine and Jacqueline's collab video so much that we'd come back with yet another video just in time for Christmas this weekend! After all you guys got the video to over 400 views in less than 48 hours!

Up dos are always one of the most coveted styles for any special occasion yet they always seem to be the hardest to get accomplished...well not this one! A simple and easy look perfect for the beginner (ahem me) or the pro (Jacqueline).

The look is chic yet simple and definitely leaves with out the ponytail issue if you get warm later in the evening. Come on admit it, how many times how you gone out with your hair looking amazing only to have it end up in a ponytail midway through the evening cause you got warm or it was just in your face? I know I'm guilty! Well this look is the perfect fixer for that problem and looks amazing to!

Hope you liked the tutorial! I'd love to see if you guys tried this look! Share the pics! <3

Cornflake Treats!

These yummy easy treats are a huge hit in our house this time of year! I practically have to beat my fiance with a wooden spoon to keep him from eating the whole tray! Taking only 4 items make this delicious  concoction irresistible! They really are the perfect little treat. And if you'd like to get creative you can lay them out on wax paper in little circles and add some red hot candies to make them look like christmas wreath. However, we really don't dig the red hots in our house so its one giant tray form for us! Let me know what you guys do!

Ingredients:
1 - package marshmallows
1 - stick of butter
6cups - plain cornflakes
Green food coloring (optional) (how green you want them depends how many drops to put in)

Directions:
1. Melt butter down
2. Stir in marshmallows in till smooth
3. Slowly add cornflakes in till all are covered evenly in marshmallow
4. Spread out in lightly covered cooking sprayed dish and enjoy!
(We like to add the little nonpareil sprinkles to ours for an added addition of fun!)

Pretzel Cookies

This time of year I am constantly baking up a storm and no matter how many cookies I make I ALWAY have to make these yummy chocolate salty combination treat! They are one of my fiance's favorite treats during the holiday season and they are soooo easy to make! And with the christmas M&M's they look so festive!

Ingredients

  • Bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels
  • Hershey's Kiss or Hershey's Hug
  • M&M's candy

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 170F.
  2. Set a number of bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels (one for each treat) in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, then top each pretzel with an unwrapped Hershey's Kiss or Hershey's Hug.
  3. Bake for 4 to 6 minutes (the white chocolate will melt more quickly), until the chocolates feel soft when touched with a wooden spoon.
  4. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and quickly press an M&M's candy into the center of each Kiss.
  5. Allow the treats to cool for a few minutes, then place them in the refrigerator to set, about 10 minutes.

WHAT YOU NEED:
1 1/4 Cup White Chocolate Chips
3/4 Heavy Whipping Cream
1/4 Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Tablespoon Peppermint Extract
Candy Canes for stir-stick garnish

DIRECTIONS
1. In a medium saucepan, mix white chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream over medium heat. Keep stirring until all the chips are melted.
2. Add in the half and half, milk and vanilla and peppermint extract. Keep on stirring til it all mixed, melted and warm!
3. Then you can top with whipped cream
4. Put a candy cane in each cup

TIPS FOR RECIPE

  • I toned the pepperminty-ness down for you guys, but I like to put 2 Tablespoons
  • I like the Guittard or Ghirardelli kind for the white chocolate chips
  • 1 quart or 4 cups Half and Half *half and half is a mixture of half cream and milk that's sold in the dairy section- you could just use 2 more cups of milk and and 2 cups of cream or heavy whipping cream to substitute

Nutella Hot Chocolate

Another recipe for you guys! This one is perfect for the Nutella nuts! Nutella hot chocolate and a home made whip cream mix to! Hope you guys like this yummy homemade simple treat!

NUTELLA HOT CHOCOLATE
1 cup milk (I use skim)
2 1/2 Tbsp Nutella
1 Tbsp Cocoa
Tiny pinch of salt

1. In a small sauce pan over medium heat, whisk all ingredients together until well blended and hot.
2. Pour in a cup and top with homemade whipped cream and shaved chocolate.

HOMEMADE WHIPPED CREAM
1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
2 Tbsp Sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1. Place a medium bowl and your beaters from your electric mixer in the freezer for 10 minutes (this helps the whipped cream stiffen faster)
2. Pour all ingredients into the chilled bowl and start to beat. Start off on low and gradually work your way up to high. It will be done when it is the consistency of ..well…whipped cream. Don’t over beat.

Casual Everyday OOTD

I kind of feel like every time I post an outfit of the day I'm always so dolled up and that can be a bit misleading. Truth in fact I am a HUGE comfy clothes wearing girl. Me, leggings and oversized t-shirts are BFFs! I love wearing leggings and leg warmers. I even sport them in the summer till it gets to hot then they get put away till the second fall hits then they're back on my legs. HAHA!

So today after getting out of work I decided I wanted to film another video for you guys. Now that I'm feeling better I'm in serious film mode! So with out further ado lets get into the outfit!

Wearing:
Mystic Topaz earrings - $49.99 - Buy It [Here]
White Rib-Knit Tank - $6.00 - Buy It [Here]
V-Neck Tee - $9.50 - Buy It [Here]
Leggings - $10.00 - Buy It [Here]
Leg Warmers - $9.99 - But It [Here]
Fuzzy Warm Socks - $5.00 - Buy It [Here]
UGG Boots - $180.00 - Buy It [Here]
OPI Nail Polish Bogotá Blackberry - $7.34 - Buy It [Here]

Unfortunately, I couldn't find my cardigan. It was bought at Alloy but they don't have it anymore. Sorry guys!

Some funny details about the items I'm wearing:
Leg Warmers: For my leg warmers I usually look for them on eBay and target. Last year I really wanted a grey pair of cable knit leg warmers and could only find them at places like Neiman Marcus for $39.99. I about dropped my eye balls! $40 for a sock with no foot holder?! You must be crazy! So I took to eBay and looked around and was able to buy two pairs (light & dark gray) and get them shipped for about $25. Yeah I think I'll take the route thank you very much....

Mystic Topaz Earrings: Nothing really funny to say but because I feel the video doesn't do them justice I HAD to share a picture of the stone. I love all the colors this stone shows off! It's amazing.

UGGs: While these may seem pricey initially. I can vouch they are worth EVERY penny! I've had them for about 4+ years and they're still kicking! Last year during the Snowpocolypse I wore them out EVERYWHERE, even playing in the snow! And my toes stayed dry! See even in the picture my boots are covered in snow and my feet...DRY! Oh and the furry little fluff ball on my lap would be Rudy my crazy dachshund that thinks he's human. LOL

Christmas Mice

Prep: 1 hr
Chill: 15 mins

Ingredients
1 12 milliliter package semisweet chocolate pieces
1 10 ounce jar maraschino cherries with stems, drained and patted dry
36 milk chocolate kisses with stripes
Sliced almonds

Directions
1. Place chocolate pieces in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 100 percent power (high) for 1 minute or until chocolate is melted, stirring twice.
2. Hold cherries by the stem and dip, one at a time, in melted chocolate to coat.
3. Place coated cherries on a large baking sheet. Immediately press the flat bottom of a kiss up against the cherry (forming mouse head).
4. Insert two almond slices between head and body to form ears.
5. Use a toothpick dipped in remaining melted chocolate to make eyes. If you like, dot some of the melted chocolate on tip of kiss for nose. (Or, place remaining melted chocolate in a resealable plastic bag; seal. Snip off a very small piece of one corner and pipe on eyes and nose).
6. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and let chill for 15 minutes or until chocolate is set.
7. Use a small flat metal spatula or table knife to help remove mice from baking sheet.
8. Store mice in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Makes about 36 mice.

I'm super excited to make these adorable little treats! I think they'd be perfect for Christmas! Are you guys making them? Send me your pics, I'd love to see the results.

DIY :: Karly's Fall Facial

After going through Lauren Conrad's website I stumbled upon Karly Goins’ recipe for a seriously sweet fall facial. Below you'll find Karly's directions so let get mixing and see how this facial turns out!
DIY: Karly's Fall Facial
This facial is mildly exfoliating (can be made more abrasive with more sugar), anti-bacterial and moisturizing! It is smooth and creamy, and can be warmed up in the microwave for cold dry skin in the winter (This does however melt the sugar so it becomes an even creamier mix.) All you need are a couple basic kitchen staples and it's as easy as that!

What you will need…
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 tbsp. of milk (the higher the fat percentage, the better)
How to make it…
  1. Pour sugar into a bowl, slowly stirring in the honey, and add quantity of milk desired (the more milk the looser the consistency).
  2. Pat mixture onto skin (avoiding eye area, it makes eyelashes sticky and the sugar is harsh on delicate skin). Leave on for 10-20 minutes (whatever you like best and have time for) this mask will not dry on your skin or become tight or hard, it will stay moist and sticky, I suggest wearing an old t-shirt while wearing this in case of any "sticky situations."
  3. Rinse the mixture off with lukewarm water; you may use a wash cloth or facial cleansing brush to assist you if you like, but make sure to clean extra well around your hairline or some of the honey might dry in hard sticky clumps. Eew no thank you!
  4. I also like to soak cotton pads/rounds in some of the same type of milk I added into the mixture, I put on some relaxing music, and lay on m bed for 5 minutes with the pads/rounds layer on my face! The lactic acid from the milk will help to slough away dead skin, while the fats & proteins in the milk help to strengthen and plump the skin.
  5. Then rinse, apply moisturizer (don't forget to put one on that has SPF if you're going out in the sun after this facial!), Look at yourself in the mirror and SMILE! You are beautiful, and now you're soft, glowy, clean skin is a little bit more beautiful too!
Now after trying this make I have some pros and I have some cons...

Pros:
Smells yummy
Tastes good
Great exfoliant
Not harsh to the skin

Cons:
Messy - the mixture just fell of my face and was goopy. I didn't even last the full 10 minutes because it was just falling everywhere.
The recipe made WAY to much. I think even if you had a girls night with 8 girls you'd still have a lot let over.

I don't know if I'll be doing this mask again. However, I did save a small container of it (stored in fridge because of the milk) for a lip scrub as I may need it. Did you try the mask out? Let me know what you thought of it.

Recipe :: Honeycrisp Apple Sangria

Ingredients:
2 Honeycrisp apples
One 750-milliliter bottle unoaked Chardonnay
1/3 C. peach Schnapps
1/4 C. pisco
1/4 C. honey
2 oranges- 1 quartered
1 lemon – quartered
1 lime – quartered
2 cinnamon sticks
2 quarter-size slices of fresh ginger
3 whole cloves
2 T. sugar
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
Ice
Club soda
Mint sprigs – for garnish

Directions:
Peel, core and chop one of the apples. In a bowl, combine the Chardonnay, Schnapps, pisco and honey. Add the quartered orange, the lemon, lime, cinnamon sticks, the chopped apple, ginger and cloves and refrigerate at least 4 hours. (I let mine sit overnight)

Strain the sangria into a pitcher. Peel, core and finely chop the remaining apple. Peel, section and chop the remaining orange. Mix the apple and orange in a bowl.

On a small plate, blend the sugar and cinnamon. Moisten the rims of wine glasses and dip in the cinnamon sugar to coat. Fill the glasses with ice. Pour in the sangria until three-quarters full. Top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with a spoonful of the chopped apple and orange and a mint sprig.

Should make around 5-6 cups of sangria.
